Benchmarking

From 2004 to 2007 AQA conducted subject related comparisons at Austrian Universities and Fachhochschulen. AQA observed a growing need for further methodological development of comparisons towards an instrument for quality development.

Within its procedure to support and audit quality management systems AQA has created a benchmarking procedure: Selected topics of the specific higher education institutions are compared. The results are made available to the higher education institutions for their internal quality management. The publication of results is a secondary goal.

The benchmarking procedure is intended to provide a process-orientated performance comparison. This enables the institutions to learn from each other and supports the further development of quality management systems. In collaboration with higher education institutions and experts, a procedure and a set of indicators is developed which can be transferred to other organisational units, performance areas and / or departments.

The procedure was carried out with an international project group in the field of life sciences. More information on the project is availabe at: http://bm.aqa.ac.at
