AQA is an independent quality assurance agency for the entire higher education sector. It is founded by relevant stakeholders within the Austrian higher education system.
AQA assures its independence through the international Scientific Steering Group and the involvement of international experts.
AQA's work is science based and interdisciplinary. Its procedures are subject to continuous feedback.
"What do we offer?"
We promote the development of quality at higher education institutions by offering expertise for the implementation of quality assurance and quality management systems for teaching, research and management.
We develop and conduct external quality assurance procedures in compliance with European quality assurance standards, in accordance with legal requirements and with the involvement of international expertise through:
a. Audit and evaluation of quality assurance processes and systems
b. Quality assurance and evaluation of study programmes, research and organisational units
c. Implementation of comparison and benchmarking procedures for higher education institutions
We promote internal quality development through our quality assurance procedures and we support higher education institutions in the development of their quality management.
Our procedures are guided by the following principles:
We provide for information about quality assurance and promote the international exchange of new developments in quality management in higher education.

Our quality assurance procedures, and assessments and certificates related with them, promote quality development at higher education institutions and are recognised nationally and internationally.
AQA is an integral part of the national quality culture. Our contribution to the quality culture of higher education institutions is clearly positioned within the Austrian system of external quality assurance. We head for this system to be perceived as being exemplary in Europe.
We cooperate with quality assurance agencies of other countries in networks and we jointly develop quality assurance procedures.
